Ikorodu Road Expansion: Many Houses To Give Way

As the Lagos State Government begins the redevelopment of the Mile 12 – Ikorodu Road, thousands of houses have been marked for demolition to pave way for the construction.

The state government had announced that it had begun the redevelopment of the Mile 12 to Ikorodu Township road, with the road having six lanes and an integrated median demarcation for the BRT buses to ply.

Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Dr. Kadri Hamzat said construction of the road would gulp N29 billion and will have other features such as pedestrian bridges designed to allow ease of access for commuters while preventing access by non-users and barriers that would ensure unhindered movement for the buses.

P.M.NEWS observed that officials of the Lagos State Physical Planning and Urban Development have marked thousands of buildings along the stretch of the road for demolition.

Buildings on the whole stretch on both sides of the road immediately after Mile 12 have been marked for demolition while government officials are expected to begin the demolition soonest.

According to Governor Babatunde Fashola, the design for the road has been completed, saying that “we are currently trying to conclude the financing arrangement so that we can award the contract.”

He said his administration was committed to implementing the modernization of Mile 12 – Ikorodu road to improve movement in the area.
