Cynthia: Shock, Outrage Over Murder

Nigerians, in their hundreds, have strongly condemned the murder of Miss Cynthia Osokogu, daughter of Major-General Frank Osokogu (retd).

She was recently drugged, raped and murdered in a hotel in Festac town, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria by two friends she met on Facebook, Okwoma Nwabufor, 33, and Odera Ezekiel, 23, who were paraded in Lagos yesterday by the police.

Reacting to the murder of Cynthia, P.M.NEWS online readers expressed shock and outrage, describing the two suspects, Okwoma Nwabufor and Odera Ezekiel as callous, heartless and devilish.

“This is cruel, brutal and a wicked act. How can fellow students kill another in the name of love? Why couldn’t they spare the lady’s life since they didn’t realise what they expected from her?” one of the online readers, Segun E. Adeniran said.

Many online readers wondered why the ‘evil geniuses of our time’ were allowed to hide their faces. “Why are the faces of these criminals hidden? We want to see their faces so that other criminals could learn and change for good or face the same punishment,” one of them wrote.

While some readers urged government not to waste public resources prosecuting the two suspected common criminals, others argued that the two suspected murderers should be given the opportunity to defend themselves in a law court.

A reader, called Taiwo, blamed the murder on prosperity preachers and urged the government to stop them before they cause more havoc among our youths.

Instead, he advised the preachers to change the thrust of their sermon from prosperity to repentance.

Reacting, some readers claimed the get-rich-quick syndrome took its toll on the two suspected killers, adding that Nigerian politicians were not helping the society as they share millions of naira daily and those indicted among them for corruption go about the streets as free citizens.

They also advised people, especially youths, to be careful about friends they keep on social networks as more daring criminals are around who might be out to perpetrate evil like the two suspects.

Online readers also advised parents not to give their children unfettered access to the internet but  monitor every step they take to forestall a reoccurrence of this dastardly act.
