The Executive Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha and other state commissioners will lead Heartland Football Club of Owerri to Lagos ahead of the team’s Federation Cup final against Lobi Stars on Sunday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
Heartland defeated Professional League Divison One club, Prime of Osogbo 5-2 via penalty shootout after a barren draw at full time of the semi final match played at the Ilorin Township Stadium yesterday, while Lobi Stars qualified for the final after defeating Kano Pillars 5-4 through penalty kicks in Calabar.
After the tie in Ilorin, Heartland Media Officer, Nwaopara Cajetan told P.M.News early today that Governor Okorocha was happy with result, and promised to lead the state’s Executive Council to Lagos for Sunday’s final ceremony.
“The Imo State Commissioner for Sports, Kenneth Emelu told the team that Governor Okorocha was happy when he heard of Heartland’s victory and has promised to lead us to Lagos for the final,” Cajetan said.
Heartland Coach, Ndubuisi Nduka said with the presence of the governor, Heartland are poised to defend the title they won last year.
“We are going to enjoy the full support of our governor against Lobi. We want to win the cup back to back and dedicate it to our fans,” he said.
