Olawale Quazeem became a match hero after guarding his team to win the Dareta Abesan Cup. During the penalty shootout, Quazeem saved two penalty kicks, which earned his team victory. In this interview with Grassroots Soccer Guide, he spoke about his performance and future plans
How would you describe your team’s performance against United Academy in the final of Dareta Abesan Cup Final?
We did well, and I think my performance was impressive. I thank God that I did not disappoint our fans, especially during the penalty shootout.
You saved two penalty kicks to seal victory for your team, what’s the secret of your success?
God is my secret. Before the penalty shootout, I told God to help me to save at least two penalty kicks and God answered my prayer. I must thank our fans and my teammates who encouraged me to perform beyond my own estimation.
Your team won the game through penalty shootout, can we really say your team deserved this victory?
Of course yes, We created more chances and unfortunately, our players did not convert any of them. We came to this competition to win and we won so we deserved this victory.
Who do you want to dedicate this victory to?
I’m dedicating the victory to our fans, teammates and family for their support to my football career.
You started your football career back in 1996, right?
I started at Adonai Football Club in 1996. Later, I joined Junior Milan before I moved to Future Heroes FC.
Which club do you want to start your professional career with?
I want to start my professional career at Kwara United. I like the club because I hail from Kwara State, same with where Kwara come from.
