‘Falconets Aim To Avoid Japan’
Women football coordinator of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Aisha Falode, says the Falconets plan to beat Italy in their last Group B match of the ongoing Women’s U-20 World Cup, to avoid hosts, Japan in the quarter final.
The sports broadcaster, who is with the team in Japan said the officials would do all within their powers to encourage the ladies because they would not want to face hosts, Japan in the knockout stage of the tournament.
Nigeria and Japan currently top their respective groups, but if Nigeria lose their grip on the leadership of the group, they may face Japan in the knockout stage.
Falode, however believes that they would not want Nigeria to face the hosts at this stage of the competition because of the home support, hence the need for Nigeria not to falter against Italy come Sunday.
Falode, who spoke on Brilafm, disclosed that the Nigerian ladies have learnt their lessons after surrendering a goal lead in their second group game against Brazil on Wednesday, stating that they are ready to make up for the slip.
According to her “The ladies have learnt their lessons and have also promised to put back smiles on the faces of soccer loving Nigerians when they face Italy on Sunday”.
Continuing, Falode hinted that although the weather has not been friendly to them but believes same applies to other countries participating in the tournament.
“The weather here is very hot, but not withstanding, I see our ladies going all the way on Sunday”.
