Why We Lost Final Ticket
Samuel Adegbenro is a player of Prime FC of Osogbo, who had an impressive semi final match against Heartland. He spoke to Sunday Akintoye shortly after the tie in Ilorin
Prime played so well but lost the final ticket. You must be proud of your performance against Heartland?
My performance was impressive, and I gave my best and tried to score, unfortunately we lost to a better team. I want to congratulate Heartland for their victory in today’s match (Wednesday).
You are sounding disappointed that your team would not play in this year Federation Cup final?
Yes, I am disappointed because our intention is to play in this year’s Federation Cup final. Actually, when the Federation Cup began some weeks ago, nobody gave us a chance to go this far, but thank goodness, we proved our critics wrong.
Your coach said inexperience was a major factor that contributed to the team’s failure, do you agree with him?
I don’t want to say we lacked experience against Heartland FC. If we can beat Wikki Tourist, Rangers International of Enugu and Enyimba of Aba on our way to the semi final, it showed that we were good before this stage. We are equal to the task and good for trophy. But, we were unlucky not to have won the game, which ended via penaly kicks.
Prime FC will battle for the third position against another Premier League club, Kano Pillars, how are you looking forward to the match on Sunday in Lagos?
It is another important match for us beacuse we were disappointed and let our fans down. They came all the way from Osogbo, Ibadan and Ilorin to support us in our semi final match against Heartland. We have resolved that the only way we can compensate our fans is to win the third position at all cost.
Looking at your performance against Heartland, we were told that many clubs are interested in you?
No club has approached me for now. It might be a rumour among my fans, but I am expecting interested clubs to come and approach me.
Will you still play for Prime FC next season?
Ofcourse. As long as no club comes to approach me, I will still play for Prime FC. I am enjoying the support of the club at this moment.
How did you start your football career?
I started at Olaosejere FC of Osogbo, moved to Dynamos FC of Ilesha before I signed for Prime FC.
