‘This Year’s TIMA Award Will Be Better’

Olumide Bola Akindele

The Chief Executive Officer of TIMA Awards, Mr. Olumide Bola-Akindele, has said the indigenous award will be better organised this year than the maiden edition, held two years ago.

Olumide, a movie producer and director with over 20 years experience, has produced hit films such as Ibinabo, Dead Alive, and Hands of God among others.

“It is not an easy thing to organise an award single-handedly in Nigeria, but I thank God for the success despite that nobody came to my rescue. I have conceived this idea  since 2000, even before any other award event.

“TIMA has been conceived before AMAA. I’m sure Fidelis Duker, Sunny Macdon Ebere and some other people in the industry will testify to this; they were all aware of it. I have been nursing the idea since 2000. But it was in 2010 that I decided to do the maiden edition and nobody gave me anything for the successful hosting of the award, except Almighty God who stood behind me.”

Nollowood Reel gathered that the award did not hold last year due to logistic problems, but this year’s edition which has already got corporate sponsors will celebrate movies produced in African languages, including Igbo, Hausa, Ibibio, Efik, Ebira and Yoruba.

On why he came up with TIMA, Olumide said: “We want to stand on our own; we want to make a statement. We want to organise an award that will be accepted all over the world. TIMA is an award that stands out and with God on our side it has come to stay.”
