ATNIG Unveils New Lightning Protection Devices
In an effort to proffer solution to the problem of lightning in the country, a Nigerian lightning technology distributor, ATNIG Ltd, in partnership with ISKRA ZASCITE of Slovenia and INGESCO of Spain has introduced a new range of surge protection devices into the Nigerian market.
Speaking at a press briefing, the Managing Director of ATNIG Ltd, Mr.Babalola Olusanya, said the latest range of lightning protection devices are tailored towards meeting the lightning and surge protection needs of corporate and private businesses, government establishments, shopping malls telecommunications and power lines and homes
Describing the devices as the latest in lightning protection technology, Mr. Babalola Olusanya said the new range of devices are Safetec, Protec and Ingesco PDC Rods.
He noted that the new devices which vary in sizes provide external, internal and earth termination system protection against lightning.
Explaining how the various devices work, Olusanya said: “Our external protection device, Ingesco PDC provides protection for structures and people against direct lightning strikes. It comprises an air termination system for intercepting lightning strikes, a conductor system for deriving the lightning current through a safe path and an earth termination system that disperses the lightning current safely in the ground.
“The internal protection devices provide protection against lightning electronmagnetic impulses for the electrical and electronic equipment located inside the structure. It includes protection against short but very high increases in voltage caused by lightning or those caused by power consumption drops.
“As for the Earth Termination System, we supply a wide range of products such as Earth electrodes, inspection Pits and Equipotential Bonding devices”
He also said the new devices have no back-up fuse, no leakage current but rather uses controlled disconnection, TOV immunity and has 20 years warranty.
Also speaking at the media briefing, ISKRA ZASCITE’s Area Sales Manager, Alenka Bucer said the new lightning device being introduced into the Nigerian market has been duly tested and approved by all relevant safety agency and adjudged as one of the most effective devices for checkmating lightning.
She advised Nigerians and corporate organisations not to wait until lightning destroys their valuable appliances and installation before taking steps to protect them.
