Basketball: Reactions Trail PRO’s Resignation

More reactions have continued to greet the sudden resignation of the Media Officer of Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, Olusegun Ikuesan, with some months before the end of his tenure.

Ikuesan, who had been the spokesman of NBBF since 2009, submitted his letter of resignation NBBF’s secretariat on 29 August, 2012, with copies of the letter for the President of basketball world governing body, Federation International Basketball Association, FIBA , Africa Zone-3 and the Secretary General, FIBA-Africa.

While speaking with P.MSports, former national team coach, Agboola Pinheiro, who is the Chairman of NBBF Technical Committee, in his response to Ikuesan’s resignation said: “Though, I have not heard about Ikuesan’s resignation officially from NBBF Secretariat, but if  actually he has decided to quit the job, then it gives an opportunity for someone else to do the job.

“Since 2009 that Ikuesan has been doing the job, there is no doubt he has done an excellent job in terms of informing the general public, through the media, on the activities of the NBFF.

“I wish him luck in his endeavours.”

According to the Proprietor of Dodan Warriors basketball club of Lagos, Col. Sam Ahmedu, Retd, in his reaction he said: “the vaccum created by the resignation of Ikuesan would be a big one to fill.

“This is because Ikuesan did the image making job of NBBF, during his time, with  zeal and passion he has for basketball.”

In a copy of the resignation letter made available to P.MSports, Ikuesan stated: “I write to resign as the media officer of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, with immediate effect from today,  29, August  2012.

“I would like to thank the president of the federation, Tijjani Umar and other members of the Executive Board of the NBBF for giving me the opportunity to serve the federation and my country in the past three years (2009-2012).”

While stating the reasons for his resignation, Ikuesan said: “My resignation with immediate effect is borne out of the desire to allow other stakeholders in the media to have same opportunity to serve their fatherland.

“Also, for me to be able to serve the country on other capacities such as being a member of the Communications department of FIBA Africa and as Administrative Secretary of FIBA -Africa Zone-3,  with Nigeria as a member nation.”

He, however, stated his readiness to continue to contribute his quota to the develoment of basketball in Nigeria.

“My resignation will not in any way affect my passion for the development of basketball in Nigeria and the entire Africa,” he said.
