Lekki LCDA Gives Security Priority

The Lekki Local Council Development Area, LCDA, of Lagos, southwest Nigeria, has pledged to give security of lives and property top priority in the area.

Speaking at thecouncil secretariat, the Chairman, Mukandas Ogidan, said the LCDA was fast developing and that government’s presence was being felt in the area with the rapid development of Lekki Free Trade Zone.

He said: “The unfolding scenario requires a level of security that would complement the rapid development being experienced in the area”.

Ogidan said his administration had provided a new patrol van for the Police division in the area to enhance its operations.

He added: “Stakeholders on security have been meeting regularly to review security issues with a view to assisting the security agents.”

Ogidan said his administration had acquired 20 vehicles for the functionaries of the LCDA to enable them perform their duties efficiently, saying; “We need to go out to supervise projects, engage in revenue drive, mobilise the people for effective participation in grassroots development and attend official functions outside the LCDA, all these have been hampered a great deal before now because of mobility challenges.”

He added that his administration would engage the youths through the cage system of fish farming, saying that the council, with 16 lakes is, naturally endowed for the project.

“Though the project is expensive, it will not only take the youths off the streets, it will empower them economically,” said Ogidan.

The chairman said the elderly too were not left out, saying that over 300 of them had been on monthly stipend for their up-keep since he came into the office.

The Lekki LCDA boss spoke on his plans to enhance tourism by exploiting the opportunities provided by the sea beach in the area.

He lamented the neglect of the beach over the years, thus becoming refuse dump site for the community. He said some people have been employed to clean the beach daily so as to make it attractive to visitors.
