Kano awards 501 post graduate scholarships

Kano State Government has awarded scholarships to 501 graduates to pursue masters degree programmes in various universities abroad.

Gov. Rabi’u Kwankaso presented the sponsorship letters to the beneficiaries at Government House, Kano, on Saturday.

Kwankwaso said the gesture was part of the government’s efforts to ensure that the best students were given opportunity to further their education.

According to him, the state has been experiencing shortage of qualified manpower for quite some time and that the programme is meant to bridge the manpower gap.

He directed the Ministry for Higher Education to ensure that only graduates with First Class and Second Class Upper Division were selected for the programme.

“The sponsorship will be a continuous process whereby students with first and second class degrees will be sponsored abroad to further their education,’’ he said.

Kwankwaso urged the beneficiaries to be good ambassadors of the state and the nation by exhibiting good conduct during their studies.
