First Bank Begin Title Challenge In Monrovia

First Bank Basketball Club of Lagos will play their first continental match today in the Zone-3 Elimination for the 2012 African Clubs championship in Monrovia, Liberia.

The coach Adewunmi Aderemi-led team, who had a 10-day training camp in Akure before their departure for the venue of the tourney on Saturday, are two times champions of the African tourney.

In a telephone chat with P.MNews, Aderemi said their participation in the tourney will not be a jamboree, assuring that they will secure a ticket for the main tourney holding next year.

“Definitely, we stand a good chance and believe we are going to win. Our team are ready to play our best games and qualify from the zone. We have the experience and also had very good preparation in Akure.”

On his knowledge about their opponents today,  he said: “We don’t know much about them but we are confident we would come out of the match victorious. Our plan this time around is to improve on our last performance.”

P.M.News gathered that Nigeria’s domestic women’s league champions, First Deepwater Basketball Club are the other team that will fly Nigeria’s flag in the qualifier.

Premier League champions and runners-up, Royal Hoopers Basketball Club of Port Harcourt and Kano Pillars will represent the country in the men’s category.
