Man charged with assault on king

A middle-aged man, Sunday Akinseye, was on Monday arraigned before an Okitipupa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting a traditional ruler.

Prosecutor Zechariah Orogbemi told the court that the accused assaulted the Ahaba of Ajagba, Oba Thomas Adesayo, on Sept. 2, 2012 in his palace at Ajagba in Ese-Odo Local Government in Okitipupa.

“He punched the Ahaba with his fists in the face and thereby committed an offence contrary Section 351 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006,” he said.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge against.

Mr Tom Ogude, the counsel to the accused, applied for bail of his client in liberal terms, stressing that he had reasonable sureties to take him on bail.

The Magistrate, Mr Dele Awodeyi, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100, 000 and one surety in the like sum.

Awodeyi said that the surety must show evidence that he had landed property in the magisterial district.

He adjourned the case to Sept. 29, for further hearing.
