Unidentified men suspected to be members of the dreaded Boko Haram Islamic sect on Wednesday attacked masts belonging to MTN and Airtel service providers located at Hotoro Quarters and Sharada area of Kano, northwest Nigeria, setting them ablaze.

Following the incident, security has been further beefed up within Kano metropolis as anti-terror squads were deployed to guard telecommunication installations across the city.

This development has raised fear and apprehension among residents of the ancient city who have enjoyed relative peace within the last four weeks as they fear further attacks by the Islamic fundamentalists who are agitating for the Islamization of the Nigeria state.
