Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Tuesday paid a condolence visit to the family of late elder statesman and former Governor of the Central Bank, Mr Olatunde Olabode Vincent, charging the next generation to draw the appropriate inspiration from the patriotism and selflessness with which he served the nation.
The Governor who was received at the Victoria Island residence of the Vincents by the widow, Mrs Adenike Ola Vincent and some of the children noted that there is nothing really wrong with the nation and all that is needed is just for more good people to come forward and play their part and at the appropriate time leave the stage.
The Governor recalled that his first memory of the former Central Bank Governor was as a child in primary school who had to write current affairs tests on who was the governor of the Central Bank or who was the federal commissioner for a particular ministry or the other and were names that the pupils had to learn.
Governor Fashola explained that it was very symbolic that Mr Vincent and his generation had defined themselves that time as leaders who had a clear vision and clear path for the country and that still remained up till when he eventually first met the deceased as an adult and till today.
The State Governor reiterated that he continues to draw inspiration from the kind of leadership , the kind of vision and the kind of selflessness with which Pa Vincent served the country and managed the affairs of the country at very critical times in times of peace and prosperity and in times of very enormous challenges.
He prayed that the soul of late Pa Ola Vincent rests in peace because he has served the nation with commitment and also lived well.
The Governor later signed the condolence register after expressing his condolence wishes to the widow and members of the family who included one of the sons, Engineer Bandele Vincent and daughter, Mrs Taiwo Bali.
The former Governor of the Central Bank, Mr Ola Vincent died on Monday night in Lagos at the age of 87.
