Governor Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa State, central Nigeria, on Thursday in Lafia, said that two airports would soon be built in the state as part of his administration’s transformation agenda.
Al-Makura made the disclosure while speaking with newsmen after undertaking an aerial tour of sites for the proposeed airports with aviation experts from the Federal Ministry of Aviation.
He said that the State Government would build a cargo airport in Karshi in the Karu Local Government Area of the state and an aerodrome in Lafia, the capital of the state.
Al-Makura explained that the cargo airport would serve as the second runway for the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja.
The governor said the proposed aerodrome in Lafia would boost business activities in the state capital.
Al-Makura said that the airports would be executed by concessioners under a Public Private Partnership scheme.
The governor said the aerial tour was to enable the aviation experts assess the suitability of the proposed sites.
He said the facilities would open up the state to investors as well as assist in decongesting the Abuja Airport.
Al-Makura assured that the projects would soon commence, having been captured in the 2012 budget.
