Taskforce Arrests 14 Fadeyi Gangsters

Officials of the Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit have arrested 14 suspected gangsters at Fadeyi area of Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria.

The gangsters were arrested Thursday around 6:00 p.m. while trying to extort money from a generator dealer in the area under duress and were taken to the taskforce office in Alausa and detained.

The suspects will be arraigned in court today, according to Taskforce Chairman, Bayo Sulaiman, who confirmed the arrest of the suspects.

Sulaiman said the gangsters normally target wholesale dealers in generators and other expensive items while they were trying to offload their goods. They would demand for huge sums of money to the tune o between N100, 000 and N300, 000 under duress.

According to him, the gangsters had been operating in the area for a long time and had been unleashing terror on business owners in the area.

He said the taskforce had been on the trail of the gangsters for long until 14 of them were arrested Thursday evening.

Sulaimon stated that members of the gang were very dangerous as they could attack people who refuse to part with huge sums of money.

He said their activities were criminal and that they must be treated as criminals, saying that they would be arraigned in court and punished according to the dictates of the law.

Sulaiman warned that the government would no longer tolerate a situation where people extort money from business owners under duress.

He also warned others who still extort money from people in the area to desist from the criminal act as the taskforce would go after them and bring them to book.
