Nigeria Premier League: Pillars Deserved Trophy -Skipper

Kano Pillars skipper, Theophilus Afelokhai has said that his team deserved to win the 2011/2012 Nigeria Premier League, NPL, title.

Pillars were on Friday crowned the Nigerian champions at the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode, despite losing their last league game 1-2 to Sunshine Stars of Akure.

After receiving their trophy, Afelokhai said Pillars started the season well and ended it with the trophy at stake, adding: “We fought the fight right from the first game of the season. And, I’m very happy that it ended well for us as a team.

“It’s a wrong notion for people to say that we were given the title by the board of the NPL. People should recall that our progress began from the start, and Nigerians should give it to Pillars. We have a reason to celebrate the league title, it’s a had fought victory.”

Another Pillars’ player, Keenneth Ehis said the team had a fulfilled season this year. According to the former Gombe star, “The road to the last match of the season was rough, but I thank God that we are Nigerian champions at the end of the season.”
