Some goalkeepers and footballers, who participated in the Play Penalty Football Tournament, are still relishing fond memories of the event, held at the Federal Housing Authority, FHA Playing Ground at the weekend.

The concept of the nationwide tourney, is to get the best penalty takers and penalty goalkeepers in a round-robin format with the penalty taker and goalkeeper based on the number of goals scored by a player and the number of penalties saved by a goalkeeper.

Few of the participants, who spoke shortly after the event sponsored by Glaxosmithkine said the tournament is unique unlike football, where you have to rely on your teammates to decide the outcome of the game.

Vincent Fidelis, who participated, said he hopes to progress to the national level and emerge as the eventual winner.

A goalkeeper Segun Ogundele applauded the organisers, Lexicon Communications for affording players an opportunity to put their strength to test, while calling on other organisations to take a cue from Lexicon Communications.

Chuka Obiakwu who could not progress to the next stage of the competition said he is delighted with the fairness of the officials saying “This is the first time I’m seeing such  football competition, the organisers thought it wise by staging it and I feel they are worthy of commendation”.

Meanwhile, CEO of Lexicon Communications, Moses Nwanse praised the players for embracing the spirit of the tourney, which is to participate.

“I must commend both the players and goalkeepers that were on parade, they really exhibited the spirit of sportsmanship, which says it is not all about winning but participating”.
