Smart Striker Coach Relishes Team’s Success


Chief Coach of Smart Striker, Sulaiman Idowu has attributed their victory over Coker FC of Iwaya in the final of U-12 Boys Category of Muniru Muse Cup to hardwork, commitment and prayers.

During the colourful closing ceremony held on Sunday at the Campos Sports Centre, Lagos Island, Smart Striker defeated Coker FC 3-2 to emerge the winner of the championship.

Smart Striker drew the first blood through Mojeed Saheed who scored two quick goals. Coker FC got their goal through after Kareem Ibrahim scored an own goal to make it 2-1 before half time.

On the resumption of the second half, both teams missed several chances until Lawal Abass scored the third goal for Smart Striker to extend the lead. Ishola Lookman’s goal  reduced the tally in 80th minute before the pulsating match ended 3-2 in favour of Smart Striker.

Idowu said they would have lost the final if his players were not focused and committed throughout the game.

“When Coker FC scored their second goal, pressure was on us but I told my players to remain focused and I am happy that the team played to my instructions,” said Idowu who promised to defend the title next year.

Coker Coach, Mathew Dafe said the outcome of the match was so painful and blamed his team for missing several chances which cost their defeat.

Meanwhile, wife of former Governor of Lagos state, Senator Oluremi Tinubu who sponsored the tourney for Senator Muniru Muse expressed gratitude to God for the success of the championship.

Mrs.Tinubu, who is representing Lagos Central Senatorial District in the Senate, commended both teams for their doggedness and performance adding that the better side won the game.

“It was an exciting final and I am really impressed with the performance of both teams. They really deserved to play in the final. I want to congratulate Smart Striker for emerging winner and I hope they will be able to defend the title in next edition,” she said.

Muse thanked Mrs. Tinubu for her contribution to football development in Lagos.

Smart Striker went home with the sum of N200, 000 with a giant trophy while the first runner up received N150, 000.
