Multiple award-winning singers, Peter and Paul Okoye, a.k.a. P-Square and alternative singer, Bez, are ready to battle for honours, having emerged the highest nominees for this year’s edition of The Headies Awards.
P-Square, who has had an interesting year musically, scooped six nominations, including Album of the Year, Artiste of the Year, and Song of the Year. Bez, rising singer-musician, who is winning accolades from fans and critics, is this year’s other major contender, with six nominations.
Bez is up for Revelation of the Year, Best Vocal Performance (male) and Best Collabo; as well as Best R&B/Pop single, and Best R&B/Pop Album.
P-Square and Bez are closely followed by Wizkid, Davido and Ice Prince who grabbed four nominations each. Praiz, who continues to grow steadily as a singer, got four nominations.
The popular ‘Next Rated’ category will have Davido, Eva Alordia, Praiz and Flowssick competing for the prize, which comes with a new car.
P.M.NEWSEntertainment gathered that the award organisers are rewarding deserving works released into the Nigerian market between March 2011 and February 2012, and the list of nominees covers a diverse range of genres from pop to R&B, hip hop, soul and several emerging Nigerian sounds.
The Headies 2012 is scheduled to hold at the Convention Centre of Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos, on Saturday, 20 October, 2012.
