The Police Insurance Scheme on Thursday in Abuja released N69.7 million, benefit of deceased officers, to their next of kins.
This is contained in a statement issued by the force spokesman, CSP Frank Mba, in Abuja.
Mba said officers who sustained injuries also benefited from the money.
The statement noted that the Inspector General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, said that police personnel were exposed to different types of dangers in the course of their duty.
Represented by Mr Philemon Leha, the DIG (Operations), Abubakar assured that in spite of the occupational hazards, they would not be deterred but be more committed in performing their constitutional duties to the nation.
It stated that Mr Horsfall Opiriyabo, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the police authorities for the gesture and appealed for decentralisation of the collection of the claims.
Opiriyabo said that this would reduce the risk of travelling long distances to Abuja by the next of kins of deceased officers.
