IGP Abubakar: to appear before Senate

Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, on Friday in Abuja elevated two police sergeants, Frank Okorobon and Patience Biokoro, to the rank of Inspector with immediate effect.

Abubakar directed another Inspector, Edo Joseph, to proceed on a course preparatory to his promotion to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (SP).

The three cops were among a team of seven police men who investigated and arrested the suspected murderers of the Facebook tragic girl, Miss Cynthia Osukogu in Lagos in July.

Other members of the team are Assistant Commissioner of Police Damian Okoro, Deputy Superintendent Imoh Gregory, Assistant Superintendent Mariam Ogunmolasuyi and Assistant Superintendent Agbaje Yakubu.

They are all attached to Area E police command at FESTAC, Lagos

Abubakar announced the promotions at a “civic recognition award’’ organised by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) at the Force Headquarters.

Abubakar expressed gratitude to the agency for recognising the performance of the officers and promised that the police needed support from the public.

Earlier, the Director-General of NOA, Mr Mike Omeri, said the arrest of the killers of Cynthia indicated that the police were doing their best in the transformation agenda of the present administration.

“The police are indeed working, the police are being reformed, let us acknowledge that. When people are making efforts, let us acknowledge them. You are making an effort,’’ he said.

Omeri assured that the present administration would adequately reward those doing well and punish those found wanting.

He said the arrest of the suspects did not only bring relief to her immediate family but gave them hope that justice would be done.

“The whole nation was gripped with fear, anger and rage but these men stick out their neck to unravel the mystery surrounding the death of Cynthia.

“What you did was not only to restore hope to other Nigerians who have given up but to position yourselves in a manner that the transformation agenda will catch up with the rest of the society,’’ he said.

He commended the IG and his management team for providing the right leadership for the force.
