Assembly Confirms Fashola's Nominee For Water Regulatory Agency


The Lagos State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Mrs. Basirat Tanwa Koya as the Executive Secretary for the State Water regulatory agency.

Her name was sent to the House by Governor Babatunde Fashola through a letter read on the floor of the House last Thursday.

Mrs. Koya this week appeared before the members of the House for screening, informing them that she was actually prepared for the task of the office having worked in the agency as a consultant before.

She also told the lawmakers that she understood the challenges facing the state Water Corporation which has resulted in the proliferation of bore-holes in the state.

She said these boreholes had some effects on the state. “It had been previously reported that it could easily prompt natural disasters like earthquake.

“Water from boreholes have also been linked to kidney and liver problems in recent times.”

Among other questions from the lawmakers, the Deputy Chief Whip of the House, Rotimi Abiru, asked the nominee why houses close to mini Water Works scattered in the state do not have water.

In her response, the nominee said the agency will introduce tariff policy, while framework would be put in place to enable everybody get potable water supply to their houses.
