Sanitation: Hoodlums Attack Local Govt Boss

The chairman of Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, Babatunde Oke, was reportedly attacked by hoodlums wielding dangerous weapons at Mosafejo market on Saturday.

Oke and other members of staff of the LCDA were attacked and wounded by the miscreants dwelling in the market while on Environmental Sanitation tour of the council.

Several mobile phones were  allegedly stolen from them during the attack while the video camera belonging to the council’s information department was smashed in the process.

Speaking with P.M NEWS, the council’s vice chairman, Dotun Ola Akande said that the hoodlums were instigated against them by motor park operators in the market.

“The market is supposed to have been developed to a modern one but the process is being delayed by some vital documents which are needed to be put in place. The motor park operators are, therefore, afraid that  the project will affect their park which is within the market.

“This miscreants came out in their hundreds wielding dangerous weapons to attack us. It was not just a mob action, our people were also robbed. Several mobile phones were stolen in the process and we have reported it to the security agents for investigation.

“The hoodlums are in large numbers in that market. Even the DPO of the police station within the market always complain about their activities. We want them to be taken care of and we need the assistance of the state government in this regard,” he said.
