Senators Differ on the Nigeria’s 52nd Anniversary.
DESMOND UTOMWEN/Abuja
For Nigeria to be saved from her numerous challenges and take her rightful place among the committee of nations, there is the need for leaders to demonstrate political will and conclusively implement policies to the benefit of the country and the people.
President of the Upper legislative chamber, David Mark made this assertion on the floor of the Senate today after over ninety senators moved a motion to congratulate President Goodluck Jonathan and Nigerians on the 52nd Independence anniversary.
Mark noted that aside the political will, Nigerians must effectively carry out their civic responsibilities as citizens while also urging Government at all levels to tackle the source of problems facing the Nation instead of chasing the symptoms.
Senate President blamed States who failed to generate internal revenue but only depend on federal allocations, for the growing challenges of the Nation and called for the autonomy of Local Government allocation.
In his contribution, Senator Uche Chukwumerije said at 52, Nigeria has failed to develop, noting that no Country can succeed if it continue to tread on the path of mediocrity.
