Woman Docked For Trespass

A middle aged woman in Ilorin, Kwara State, northcentral Nigeria, Mrs Toyin Gbadamosi,  has been arrainged before an Area Court in Ilorin for alleged trespass.
She was arraigned on a 5-count charge of trespass, criminal intimidation, accusing a person of being a witch, defamation of character and inciting disturbance, contrary to section 377, 348, 216 B and 392, 144 of penal code law.
According to police First Information Report, FIR,  Mrs Olomisi Margaret of Ira street, Sangoan, Ilorin, ccomplained to the police at Area Commander’s office that the accused criminally trespassed into her compound and urinated there and when challenged, she abused and called the complainant a witch who killed her son two years ago.
In addition, the charge sheet revealed that the accused, aside vowing to cause disturbance in the neighbourhood, threatened to kill her.
But the accused person denied all the allegations levelled against her.
Addressing the court, the police prosecutor, Corporal Lukman Adenigba objected to the bail of the accused on the ground that investigation by the police had not been concluded, arguing that the accused might likely tamper with the investigation if granted bail.
But counsel to the accused, O. R. Abdulsalam prayed the court to grant the accused bail, arguing that all the allegations filed against his client are bailable while the accused is also presumed innocent until otherwise proven by court.
Ruling, Hon Yusuf Abdulkareem, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N3,000 and a surety within the jurisdiction of the court in like sum.
He therefore adjourned the case till 23 October for further mention.
