4 Suspected Kidnappers Docked
Four suspected kidnappers have been arrested and arraigned before a Lagos court in southwest Nigeria after the police foiled their attempt to collect ransom from a victim.
The suspects are Chike Okoro, 25, Dele Taofeek 27, Seyi Johnson, 35 and Femi Shosanya, 20.
The defendants were charged before Yaba Magistrate’s court on a three-count charge of kidnapping, attempting to kill and collecting ransom.
The defendants who are now in prison custody allegedly kidnapped Adedeji Adeyemi, 43, along Abeni Close, Sholuyi, Gbagada, Lagos.
P.M.NEWS learnt that Adeyemi was taken to an unknown place and they threatened to kill him if he failed to pay the ransom they demanded.
P.M.NEWS gathered that the gang ran into trouble during negotiation and fell into a trap set by the police and four of them were arrested.
The matter was transferred to SCID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos where the police further interrogated them before charging them to court presided over by Mrs S. K. Metapo.
They pleaded not guilty. The court granted them bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The court also ordered that the sureties must be their blood relations and show evidence of payment of taxes and their addresses must be verified by the court. The matter was adjourned till 5 November, 2012. They were remanded in prison custody pending when they meet their bail conditions.
