Eagles Storm Calabar Today

Nigeria’s national team, the Super Eagles will commence preparations for the final round of qualifying for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations today in Calabar.

Goalkeepers, Vincent Enyeama, and Austin Ejide are the first set of players expected to hit the team’s camp today. Midfielder, Nosa Igiebor is also among players expected in Calabar.

The trio will be joined by the rest of the squad tomorrow morning as some of them have visa issues to sort out.

Chelsea midfielder, John Mikel Obi is one of such players.

The others who have games with their European clubs on Sunday will join the rest of the squad tomorrow. Head coach of the Nigeria team, Stephen Keshi said all players would be expected in camp on Tuesday.

“All the players will be here on Tuesday and that is so because some of them have some visa issues to sort out at their clubs and we expect to have a full house at Tuesday training session,” he said.

Fifteen foreign-based pros and seven home-based lads make up the Nigeria squad to face Liberia on 13 October for the right to play in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. The winner of the game will qualify for the tournament. Officials say there is absolutely no time to waste ahead of Saturday’s crunch qualifier against the Lone Star of Liberia.

Arrangements have since been made for all the invited players to find their way to Calabar and as usual the Metropolitan Hotel in the heart of the city will be the camping site of the national team.
