Flood shuts down Orient Petroleum

Mr Nnaemeka Nwawka, the Managing Director of Orient Petroleum Resources in Aguleri-Otu, Anambra State, on Tuesday said that the premises of the oil company had been taken over by flood.

He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka that the operations of the company had been shut down due to flooding at the oil complex.

Nwawka said that the company’s workers could not gain access to the multi-billion naira facilities in the complex due to flooding.

“We have shut down our operations at the place, the whole place is flooded.

“You cannot even get there because it is cut off and nobody can gain access to the site,’ he said

The Anambra Government, through its Secretary said that over 10,000 homes and businesses were under water.

The government said that flood posed a huge threat to the economy of the state, adding that the agricultural sector was already badly affected.

It said that “serious debt issues“ would arise as a result of the flood in the state
