MasterCard, Flying Dove Partner On e-Payment

Global payment card company, MasterCard has entered a partnership with Flying Dove, the authorised distributors for Sony Corporation in Nigeria, to boost e-Payment and the cash-less scheme in the country.

The joint venture, according to a statement,  is to make payment more convenient and safer.

Speaking on the terms of the partnership, the Country Manager, West Africa, MasterCard Worldwide, Mrs. Omokehinde Ojomuyide, said: “MasterCard cardholders will qualify for a five per cent discount on the purchase of any item at Sony centres across Nigeria.  In addition, and as part of the alliance with MasterCard, Sony centres staff will undergo card acceptance and fraud prevention training. We will also be supporting Flying Dove by marketing the discount offer, further showcasing the benefits of moving towards electronic payments to our cardholders.

“Strategic initiatives such as our collaboration with Flying Dove Limited will assist each stakeholder to better support the CBN in its quest to drive the development and modernisation of the Nigerian payment system.

“The CBN had noted that the reduction of cash through its cash-less policy would assist in curbing the impact of corruption and other criminal behaviour, which will have a positive impact on all Nigerians.

In view of this, Ojomuyide said MasterCard would continue to work with Nigerian banks and retailers to facilitate the reduction of cash within their payment systems by offering innovative, safe and convenient payment alternatives to their customers.

“We look forward to achieving our shared goal of a cash-less Nigeria, where our dependency on cash transactions will be significantly reduced,” she said.

Speaking on the joint venture, the Managing Director, Flying Dove Limited, Mr. Ashok Jain, said: “Working alongside MasterCard has allowed us, as a retail leader in Nigeria, to further solidify our position in the local market. Our vision is to help make payments in all of the Sony centres more convenient, easier and safer for customers and the Sony centre staff.”
