Unions Threaten Aviation Industry
Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, Mrs. Stella Oduah wants to destroy the Aviation industry in the country, the unions in the turbulent sector alleged at a press conference this morning.
The unions highlighted areas they said the minister has failed to address, saying that if their threats are not heeded, “the Minister of Aviation shall be met with force within our scope, as we shall not fold our arms while this gross abuse of office, misconduct and irresponsible behaviour continue.” The unions said: “As representatives of the workers in the sector, we view the current actions and utterances of the Minister of Aviation as a direct assault on the sensibilities and collective intelligence of the entire workers in our industry, an avoidable danger signal to the stability, sustenance and economic independence of the industry and a disserive to the transformation agenda of Mr. President.” They highlighted the planned automation of the aviation industry, the recent appointments in the agencies and accused some of them of being corrupt. The conference was addressed by the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, ATSSSAN, and National Union of Air Transport Employees, NUATE.
