Lagos Public School Wins Debate

Oriwu Senior Secondary School, Ikorodu, Lagos, a public school in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, yesterday emerged the winner of the 2012 edition of the schools debate organised in honour of the late Afrobeat king, Olufela Anikulapio-Kuti.  The debate tagged Felabration Schools Debate.

Ejide Temitope Oluwapelumi defeated nine other students including Kemi Adeyemi representing the defending champion’s school, Vivian Fowler Memorial College, Ikeja, Lagos during the debate held at Freedom Park, Lagos.

Adeyemi came second, Okorie John of Army Children School, Ikeja Cantonment, Ikeja, came third, Femi Adelakun  of St Gregory’s College, Ikoyi, Lagos, emerged fourth, followed by the representative of  Dowen College, Lagos.

Ten Lagos secondary schools, namely Vivian Fowler Memorial College, Sanya Senior Grammar School, Dowen College, Bellina College, Oriwu Senior Model College, Army Children High School, St Gregory’s College, Adrao International School, Aunty Ayo Girls Comprehensive School and Vetland Grammar School, participated in the schools debate with the topicwhose topic was: Social Media In Africa: ‘Good or Evil’.

Speaking after the debate,Yeni Anikulapo Kuti told P.M.NEWS that she was satisfied with the quality of the inter-school debate, adding “and for a public school to win it, shows that there is an improvement in the standard of education offered by public schools.”
