Sex Worker Jailed
After he had enjoyed a night of several rounds of sex with a commercial sex worker, a young man, Anayo Oroh has lost his two mobile phones to his client, Rita Joseph. She was later arrested, tried and jailed over the act.
It was learnt that before Rita departed Anayo’s bedroom in the morning, she demanded for N8,000 fees which they had agreed before she rendered the service.
When Anayo could not pay, Rita stole his two telephone sets and bolted away.
The matter was reported to the police and Rita was arrested and charged to court.
The prosecutor, Mr. Ado Abbare, told the Upper Area Court in Jos, the Plateau State Capital, Northcentral Nigeria, that the convict committed the offence on 2 October, at about 5. 30 a.m.
Abbare said that the convict on the fateful day stole the two handsets from the bedroom of her client, Anayo Oroh, and ran away.
“The complainant at about 8 a.m. went to ‘A’ Division Police Station and informed the police that the convict had disappeared with his handsets.
“The convict was on 4 October, arrested at a beer parlour at West of Mines after disappearing with the handsets for two days and was handed over to the police.
“During police investigation on the matter, the convict confessed to have committed the offence,” he said.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 287 of the Penal Code.
The convict, who had pleaded guilty to the charge, prayed the court for leniency.
She said the complainant’s refusal to pay the N8,000 fees which they had agreed to before the service, made her steal his phones.
“My lord, the complainant had several rounds of sex with me before day break and in the morning refused to settle me and this made me snatch his phones,” she said.
The trial Judge, Malam Mustapha Hassan, said that the prosecution had convinced the court beyond reasonable doubt that the convict committed the offence.
The judge sentenced Rita to two months’ imprisonment for stealing the two mobile phones valued at N16, 500 with an option of N1, 000 fine.
