Squatter In Court For Attempted Rape, Theft
A 24-year old man, Emmanuel Uwurah, was on Monday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court charged with assault and theft of a Nokia E71 mobile phone valued at N32,000
Uwurah, who claimed to be seeking admission into a higher institution, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, unlawful assault and stealing.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Inspector Benson Emuerhi, told the court that on 6 October the accused, with the intent to rape Miss Ene Blessing stripped her naked at about midnight.
“The accused, who squats with Ene, attempted to rape her at 1 a.m. in her residence at No. 32, Majekodunmi Street, Shogunle, Lagos.
“Apart from the assault and attempt to rape, he also stole Ene’s E71 Nokia phone valued at N32,000,” Emuerhi said.
The prosecutor, however, said that Ene was saved from being violated by neighbours who responded speedily to her shouts for help.
Magistrate E. O. Ogunkanmi granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety.
He adjourned the case till 22 October for mention.
