Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer, Ike Shorunmu has expressed strong confidence in the ability of the Nigerian team to pick the 2013 South Africa 2013 Nations Cup ticket ahead of the Lone Star of Liberia, when both teams clash at the U.J Esuene Stadium, Calabar on Saturday.

Both teams clash this weekend to see who qualifies for the biannual tournament after proceedings ended 2-2 in the first leg played on 9 September in Monrovia, Liberia, and Shorunmu believes the Eagles will carry the day.

The former Besiktas of Turkey’s goalkeeper is of the view that the Eagles are fired up for Saturday’s make or mar encounter, arguing that they would put smiles on the faces of Nigerians again after missing out in the last edition of the Nations Cup.

According to him: “We are going into the clash with the aim of winning and winning convincingly; there are no longer minnows in football. That is why we are not going to treat them with kid gloves”.

On what went wrong in the first leg, when they were forced to a 2-2 draw, he said they went to Liberia to win but the poor state of the pitch on which the game was played affected their performance “We were already coasting home to victory, but it was unfortunate that we gave up the lead.”

Speaking on Saturday’s decisive clash, Shorunmu said Nigerians should not lose sleep but they should pray and come out in their numbers to cheer them to victory.

“We need the support of Nigerians but home and abroad because we cannot do it alone, the fans should be on our side even when things are not going our way, but with their encouragement we would go all the way”.

The Eagles failed to qualify for the last edition of the Nations Cup co-hosted by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon earlier in the year. The inability of the Eagles to qualify for the last edition of the tournament led to the sack of Coach Samson Siasia.
