Ashafa Hails LASG, Eko Club’s Free Health Initiative

Senator Gbenga Ashafa, has hailed the free health programme co-sponsored by Lagos State Government and Eko Club International, ECI, targeted at improving the health conditions of the peole of the state.

The Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District made the commendation while delivering a speech at the free health initiative held at Ikorodu Town Hall, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, recently.

Ashafa, in his address, said it gives him great pleasure to witness the occasion and also feels a sense of pride as he joined the beneficiaries of the initiative.

“My joy is doubled since today’s edition is located in the Senatorial District where you all sent me to represent.

“For the fourth time, Eko Club International, ECI, is contributing its quota to humanity, by creating a healthy people, with the realisation that “a healthy people are indeed a wealthy people,” he averred.

He said this year’s edition, just as that of the year 2010, has been dedicated to one of the most illustrious sons of Lagos, the late Dr. Nurudeen Olowopopo, one of the World’s most renowned Gynaecologist.

“We received 80 medical experts all the way from the United States of America in the name of community services. This is indeed a giant stride in the anal of Non-government Organisations, NGOs’ work in making this world a better place.

“I also acknowledge the good gesture from the Lagos State Government, under the leadership of Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola for being the principal supporter of this initiative.

“The exercise will be focused on the most common health issues bordering our people; Diabetes, Hypertension, Asthma and infectious Diseases such as HIV/AIDS, with a view to diagnosing these diseases, prescribing appropriate medication, giving some of these drugs on the spot and referring the patient for subsequent treatment where acute,’’ he said.

“I also understand that this exercise is taking place throughout the state. By the end of the programme, a large number of our people would have been relieved of various health issues. This is indeed a commendable effort!

“These gestures, to me, represent what define us as leaders, a people, a political party and indeed a representative of the people.  I have no doubt that you all will agree with me that they are just tokens out of the many achievements of the government of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the state,” he said.
