Fundamentals Of Safer Road Usage Launched

The public presentation of the book; Fundamentals of Safer Road Usage was held recently at the Conference Room of NTA 2 Channel 5, Victoria Island, Lagos. The book, written by Mr. Adrian Egonu, a road safety expert and the Principal Consultant of Chadeg Automobile Services was written to compliment the efforts of all the relevant road safety organisations.

Road traffic accidents generally are a major source of worry to many people globally. This is because of the massive loss of lives and properties attributed to this silent scourge.

The event drew several stakeholders in the automobile and safety departments who congregated to use the platform to further brainstorm on the way forward to curb the problems of road traffic crashes.

Engr. Savage, former chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), who stood in for the Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Pat Utomi, in his opening address noted that the number of vehicles on our roads is increasing daily, so we should be very much aware of the dangers on our roads.

He further implored all to support the efforts of the author and others who propagate proper road safety norms and looked forward for more co-operation between the FRSC and other road users.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Ali Bwarama, representative of Mr. Akpabio Nseobong, the Lagos State Sector Commander of the FRSC thanked the author for using his time and resources to produce the publication.

He stressed that road safety is the concern of everybody and he was further impressed that the publication came from a non-FRSC personnel. He corroborated the author’s view that most road incidents are avoidable and also that having the right road usage attitude is very important for improved safety on Nigerian roads.

In his review of the book, Dr. Tony Okeregbe, Senior Lecturer of Philosophy at the University of Lagos, who represented Dr. Oscar Odiboh, the Managing Consultant, Newsletters Ltd, pointed out that,”one of the luxurious necessities of modern technological culture is the invention and continuous perfection of the automobile. He added that like every machine, the work of human hands, automobiles, subsists on the whims and caprices of human action to accomplish its desired goals.

“And when through actions of omission or commission we default in our management of the automobile, the result is often a crash that may lead to fatal circumstances”.

He concluded his review by stating that, “as a product of research, Fundamentals of Safer Road Usage will prove useful to teachers, lecturers, scholars, policy makers, journalists, medical practitioners, students, counselors, pastors and others who are in the business of informing people”.
