G. Cappa Workers Protest Over Unpaid Salaries

Aggrieved workers of the construction company, G. Cappa Plc, stormed their 8, Tailor Road, Iddo, Lagos office recently to protest the non-payment of their salary arrears.

The workers stormed the office peacefully to protest with placards which had different inscriptions. Besides, the company was alleged to have sacked 57 workers.

One of the protesters, Tajudeen Oguntokun who spoke to P.M.NEWS said: “Aside the initial 28 months salary arrears they owe us since 2009, the management is owing us fresh arrears of nine months. If they want us to go, they should give us the salary arrears, later we can come back for our entitlement. When they employed us, they promised to give us housing allowance and basic salary, but they failed to do it. They’ve been owing us salary arrears since 2009 and they gave us one month, how is that possible? One of our colleagues died when he didn’t have money to take care of himself. The management claimed there is no money and they are buying cars, building houses and having access to loans while we are suffering”.

He said further: “The union has been bought over despite the fact that we have been paying our union dues every month. They betrayed us. We have invited EFCC and SEC to intervene on this issue but we haven’t seen the result”.

All our efforts to speak with G.Cappa’s management on the protest were futile as the management denied us access.
