Parasoccer: Paralympic Team Win Super Three Tourney

It was an explosive encounter on 10 October, 2012, at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, between three Lagos-based parasoccer clubs. The tourney,  tagged 2012 Lagos State Super-Three Interclub Parasoccer Tourney, was sponsored by the Lagos State government through the office of Grassroot Sports Development in conjunction with Rotary Club of Maryland, Lagos. The athletes were drawn across the local government and council development areas of the state.

The participating clubs were Team Lagos, Sports Director Team and Lagos State Paralympic Club at the end of the showdown, Lagos State Paralympic Club emerged first with gold medal and N5000 cash awarded to each of the athletes that made up the team. Silver medal and N3000 cash award  and Bronze medal with N2000 cash award were given to Director of Sports Team and team Lagos respectively.

According to the chairman of the association, Awelenje Babatunde, the tourney is aimed at sensitising corporate organisations to effectively demonstrate their corporate social responsibility, take away the physically challenged off Lagos Streets by using adapted sports to engage them and hence mainstreaming them into our society.

The tourney showcases  the abilities in disabilities, the chairman said.
