Former Nasarawa State Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Akwe-Doma, has demanded explanation from the Al-Makura-led administration in the state over an alleged disappearance of N4 billion from the coffers of the state’s Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

The funds were said to have been set aside for the construction and rehabilitation of UBE projects in the state.

The immediate past Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Suleiman Ubam, who queried the whereabouts of the funds, alleged in a statement on Tuesday in Lafia, that the Congress for Progressive Change-led administration in the state might have misappropriated the funds.

He said that the state government was yet to renovate a school 18 months after assuming the mantle of leadership in the state despite inheriting N4 billion from the immediate past Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government in the state.

“It is pertinent to also put on record the incontrovertible fact that the education reform programme of the Aliyu Doma administration did not only positively impact on the development and quality of education at all levels throughout the state, but also left a whopping N4 billion in NASUBEB’s coffers.”

Contacted on phone for a reaction, the Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Abubakar Hussani, said that NASUBEB was an organisation on its own, adding that the question should be directed to the board chairman, Alhaji Abdulkarim Mohammed.

In his reaction on phone, Mohammed said there was nothing else for him to comment on since Governor Al-Makura had earlier cleared the air on the matter, when he said that he inherited an empty treasury.
