Bank Manager Arraigned For Stealing N4M

A Senior Manager of Skye Bank, Aregbesola Michael, alleged to have defrauded a customer of the bank to the tune of N4.2 million has been arraigned before a Tinubu chief magistrate court in Lagos.

In a five-court criminal charge number L/94/2012 filed before the court by the police prosecutor from Zone two Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, Corporal F. Okere, it was alleged that  the accused banker, who is a senior manager in Skye Bank Plc, on 30 September, 2010 conspired with others at large to steal N4.2 million via Automated Teller Machine (ATM) from the account of one Akintola Idowu Adisa, a customer of the bank.

Mr. Okere alleged further that Aregbesola Michael and others, now at large, same time and place, with intention to commit felony obtained by false pretence an ATM card belonging to the customer of Skye Bank, Akintola Idowu Adisa by forging a letter purported to have originated from the customer of the bank to collect his ATM card without his authority and thereafter falsely presented himself to be Akintola Idowu Adisa.

The offences of conspiracy, forgery, impersonation and stealing alleged to have been committed by the accused banker were said to be contrary to and punishable under sections 409, 285 (8), 312 (3), 368 (1) and 378 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.

The accused pleaded not guilty  and his counsel urged the court to grant him bail in liberal term since the accused is presumed innocent until proved guilty.

In her ruling, the presiding magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. The sureties were ordered to swear to affidavit of means.

The case has been adjourned till 1 November, for the commencement of the trial of the accused.
