APCs Not Malfunctioning —Ogun Police
Ogun State Police Command has reacted to a report in a national daily (not P.M.NEWS) that the newly purchased armoured personnel carriers, APCs, are no more functioning, saying reports about the closure of some banks on Monday in Ijebu Ode and its environs were based on sponsored rumour from some mischievous people.
A press statement from the office of the Ogun State Police Spokesman, ASP Muyiwa Adejobi which was signed by the State Police Commissioner, CP Okoye Ikemefuna, debunked the story, saying it was a misrepresentation of the scenario.
Part of the release stated that, “the attention of the Ogun State Police Command has been drawn to the publication on the front page of the Compass Newspaper captioned ‘Ogun banks close as Amosun’s APCs break down’.
“The Command wishes to debunk the story as it is a misrepresentation of the whole scenario on ground. In fact, the bankers in Ijebu area of Ogun State are working and all the brand new armoured personnel carriers (APCs) are functional. The bankers on Monday only acted on a sponsored rumour that the brand new APC in Ijebu was faulty, thus, there was a threat of robbery attack, which did not go down well with the Command.”
The statement revealed that the State Commissioner of Police, Okoye Ikemefuna was in Ijebu Ode, Ogun state, southwest Nigeria as a result of this rumour to meet with the bankers to clear the air on the rumour and reassure them of sound security.
“It is important to state that this rumour and/or story is the handiwork of mischief makers who have plans to jeopardize and distort the security arrangement on ground in Ogun State. The Command therefore reiterates that the story is not true and thereby urges the general public to disregard the rumour and go about their lawful businesses as the police command is adequately prepared to provide unalloyed security during this ’ember’ month period,” the statement reassured.
