Jonathan, Tambuwal congratulate Mimiko

President Goodluck Jonathan and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, have congratulated Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo state following his victory at the governorship election held in the state on Saturday.Mimiko was declared winner of the election at the Akure, Ondo state headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after he polled 260, 199 votes. The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Part (PDP), Olusola Oke, came second with a total votes of 155,961 while Rotimi Akeredolu of the Action Congress of Nigeria got 143,512 votes.President Jonathan, who sent his congratulatory message through his Special Adviser on Media, Reuben Abati, further commended the electorate for their patriotism and obedience to the law throughout the period of the exercise.He also praised the INEC officials who conducted the election and the security agencies who ensured that the elections were peaceful.The statement read: “as Governor Mimiko looks forward to the commencement of his second term in office, the President urges him to be prepared to work even harder to justify the fresh mandate given to him by the people of Ondo state who voted for his re-election on Saturday.”President Jonathan assures Dr. Mimiko that the Federal Government will continue to engage constructively and positively with the Ondo State Government in collaborative efforts to achieve faster socio-economic development and better living conditions for people in the state and all other parts of Nigeria.On his part, Speaker Tambuwal, in a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Malam Imam Imam, described Mimiko’s victory as a manifestation of the people’s trust in him and his effectiveness as a leader.While urging the Governor to always be mindful of the trust bestowed upon him through the election, the Speaker advised him not to disappoint the people in his second term.Tambuwal advised Governor Mimiko to avoid putting in mind those who did not vote for him if he really wants to make an impact.He advised other candidates in the election to accept the result of the election and co-operate with the Governor in order to meet the goal of the state government in the next four years.For those who may be opposed to the result, he asked that they pursue their grievances legally and not take the laws into their hands promising that the House would co-operate with the state.
