Man Caught With N1b At Airport Docked

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, today took Abubakar Sheriff Tijani, 25, the man arrested with N1.1billion at Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos last week, to a Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos Southwest Nigeria.

The suspect was arrested by operatives of EFCC at Murtal Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos while trying to smuggle $7million (about N1.1billion) out of Nigeria.

Reports said Tijani, who was travelling to Dubai, United Arab Emirate declared $4.5 million as the foreign currency in his possession whereas he was actually carrying $7million. This was discovered after his luggage was searched.

When he interrogated by operatives of EFCC, Tijani reportedly confessed that he was hired by 20 people to ferry the money to Dubai.  As at press time, Tijani was about to be arraigned before the Federal High Court on a count charge.
