Headies Rewards Veterans

Friday, 19, October 2012 will remain evergreen in the minds of popular musicians and music producers as organisers of the popular Hip Hop Awards, otherwise known as The Headies,  played host to veterans in the music industry at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The event featured musical performances by old and the new generation artistes such as Orlando Julius Ekemode, Sir Shina Peters, Mike Okri, Daddy Showkey, Queen Salawa Abeni and others.

Waje kicked-off  the show with a rendition of Onyeka Onwenu’s Danumo, followed by Timi Dakolo who sang Majek Fashek’s Send Down The Rain, while Tuface performed Okri’s Time Na Money.

Faze performed Orlando Julius’ Ololufe, and there were  solo performances by Salawa Abeni and Daddy Showkey.

The veterans also joined the young ones on stage.

The high point of the event was when Sir Shina Peters joined Darey to play Ace, the album that shot SSP to limelight; it was dance, dance and dance.

After the impressive performances, special recognition certificates were given to music producers such as Laolu Akins for producing Ace, Odion Iruoje for Okotie’s  I Need Someone. Eddy Lawani was also recognised as best artiste manager.

Musicians that were recognised were Fatai Rolling Dollar, Dele Abiodun, Stella Monye, Mike Okri, Orits Wiliki, Salawa Abeni, Sir Shina Peters, Orlando Julius, Daddy Showkey, Daddy Fresh, Papa Fryo, Felix Lebarty and Femi Esho of Evergreen Music Company for producing and selling evergreen albums.

Earlier the CEO Headies Ayo Animashaun said the veterans were being honoured for their contribution to the music industry, either by releasing albums or by releasing a hit track in the 50-year history of Nigerian music, and by giving the younger ones the ladder to climb to the top.

Reacting on behalf of the veterans Odion Iruoje thanked Animasaun and his crew for a job well done and for recognising the elders.

The duo of Patrick Doyle and Frank Edoho, comperes for the show, lived up to expectations by adding humour to the event.
