Unilag, Yabatech Ready For Athletes

Officials and athletes of the 2012 National Sports Festival tagged Eko 2012 will get the best of accommodation facilities, Chairman, Accomodation and Welfare Sub-Committee, Erelu Adebayo, has said.

Adebayo disclosed that University of Lagos, Unilag and Yaba College of Technology, Yabatech will host most of the athletes during the festival.

“We believe that athletes should be comfortable so that they can give optimum performance during the games. That is why we are giving them the best,” Adebayo said.

“Majority of the athletes will be camped in Unilag, while Yaba College of Technology, Yabatech and the Federal College of Education will accommodate the remaining athletes.

“We have renovated the accommodation venues and this is a plus for the schools because when the students return, they will enjoy better facilities in their hostels.”

Secretary of the sub-committee, Uthman Okunu, stated that they had held a meeting with the security sub-committee to ensure that there is 24-hour security during the duration of the national showpiece.

He said representatives of 18 states would inspect the festival facilities today, adding that the accommodation/welfare, venues/facilities, catering/feeding and transportation/traffic control sub-committees would conduct the states round the facilities.

Also, a member of the sub-committee, Abiodun Ogunrinde, added that, “beds, mattresses have been replaced at the accommodation venues. We observed that we need to power electricity at these venues and possibly leave that as a legacy after the games.”
