Mr Sikiru Adebayo and his wife, Fatimo, were on Monday arraigned before an Oyo Magistrate’s court for neglecting their parental responsibility leading to an alleged rape of their six-year-old daughter.
According to NAN, the couple is facing a two-count charge of negligence of duty by failing to protect their daughter on 21 September at Opapa area of Oyo which exposed her to danger.
They were also accused of failing to maintain and protect their daughter as parents by placing her under specific guidance which exposed her to unhygienic environment.
Police prosecutor, Sgt. Musa Raji, said the offence was contrary to and punishable under Section 16(1) and Section 16(2) of the Child’s Right Law of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Jejelola Ogunbona, granted the couple bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till 12 December.
