Runner up in the Women’s Singles of Futures 2 of the just concluded 12th Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Open, Perrin Conny of Switzerland, has expressed great disappointment losing the final.

Perrin, 21, who lost 2-6, 3-6 to Romania’s Cristiana Dinu, told Tennis Special at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club in Onikan, that she would have loved to win the final match, but lost because she was nervous and did not play her usual game.

“I tried my best to win the game but it’s so disappointing that I lost. I was nervous and that gave Dinu a chance to win. Also, I couldn’t really play my game,” Perrin said amid tears.

The Swiss would however, take solace in the fact that she won the Women’s Doubles event with her South African partner, Simmonds Chanel. She vowed to return next year with an improved performance.

“Although, I lost the Singles trophy, but I won the Doubles. So, it’s still good for me.

“However, I take everything that happened to me as a lesson and it will help me when next I come to Nigeria. For me, I love Nigeria and will like to play in the tournament again. So, my focus will be how to do better next year because I’ll definitely be here,” she said.

Perrin, also praised the organisation of the ITF pro circuit, sponsored by FCMB Plc and Etisalat Nigeria, adding that the yearly improvement is responsible for the presence of top players who troop into  Lagos every year.

She said: “The organisers have been fantastic and they’ve been improving every year. This, I believe, is the reason top players come from all over the world to play in the tournament.”
