Chief Coach of Messiah Football Club, Anthony Oladayo, has revealed how his team emerged the champions of this year’s Extra Joss Football Championship.

Messiah FC, based in Ifako Ijaye, Lagos, against all odds shocked Apapa Golden Stars Football Club 5-4 on penalty shootout after scoring one goal apiece at  regulation time in the final match played last Saturday at the astro turf of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

Oladayo told P.M.Sports that determination, discipline and hard work were the factors responsible for his team’s victory.

He disclosed that when the tournament started a month ago, nobody gave his team a chance. Having defeated a highly fancied Apapa Golden Starts who just came from a foreign tour in Tunisia, his team will be a force to reckon with in future football competitions.

“I am happy that my players played to instructions and they were disciplined throughout the competition. These are the factors that helped us to overcome Apapa Golden Stars in final,” said Dayo who dedicated the victory to his wife, Maria.

Also speaking, Coach of Apapa Golden Stars, Nathaniel Olagunju, expressed disappointment over the outcome of the final match. He admitted that his team played well but noted that what killed his team’s  was their  inability to take their chances during the encounter.

“There is nothing I can do but to accept the result in good faith. Both teams played well but the better side won,” Olagunju confessed.

The winners went home with the sum of N750, 000 and a giant trophy while second and third position pocketed N500, 000 and N350, 000 respectively.
